My Number
Your My Number and your My Number Card are related but not the same thing. A My Number is assigned to residents recorded on the resident register, including foreign nationals; the physical My Number Card is a separate card and application/status question.
What BRIDGE can tell you now
Your My Number and your My Number Card are related but not the same thing. A My Number is assigned to residents recorded on the resident register, including foreign nationals; the physical My Number Card is a separate card and application/status question.
What to check
- ✓First identify what you actually need: confirmation of your My Number, applying for or receiving a My Number Card, changing card details, or using Mynaportal. These are different procedures.
- ✓Digital Agency says a My Number is assigned when a person is newly registered as a resident, including after moving into Japan from abroad. Foreign nationals with a resident record are included.
- ✓If information printed on the My Number Card changes because of a move or similar change, Digital Agency says the card information must be updated through the municipality where you live. The agency notes a 14-day notification rule for changes to card information.
- ✓If you leave Japan and later re-enter, Digital Agency says you continue using the same My Number rather than receiving a new one.
- ✓The old paper Notification Card was abolished in 2020. Digital Agency says it is not reissued or updated when name/address changes; an old card can only continue to serve as proof of My Number when its printed details still match the resident record.
- ✓BRIDGE should never ask you to enter or save your actual 12-digit My Number. My Japan only needs a broad status such as card / notification only / not yet / unknown to guide procedures safely.
