What BRIDGE can tell you now
Moving can trigger several linked procedures. The exact path depends on whether you are moving into a municipality, within it, or out of it.
What to check
- ✓First identify the move type: moving in, moving within the municipality, or moving out.
- ✓For transfer-in and change-of-address notifications, MynaPortal says the notification should generally be made within 14 days after the move. Check the municipality for your exact case.
- ✓A move may also affect My Number, National Health Insurance, pension status, child-related benefits, school matters, and other local services.
- ✓If someone else will go for you, check proxy/authorization requirements before visiting. These can vary by procedure.
Protective / preventive option
Address-disclosure protection may be available for qualifying safety cases
Japan has resident-register support measures for qualifying victims of domestic violence, stalking, child abuse and comparable conduct. Osaka City explains that, after the required assessment, access to resident-record copies and related records can be restricted when there is a risk that the information could be used to locate the person.
This is not a general privacy switch and BRIDGE should not recommend it automatically. Eligibility and necessity are assessed with the municipality and relevant support bodies. Osaka City also warns that the measure can make some convenience-store certificate, My Number health-insurance and Mynaportal functions unavailable. The support period is generally one year and continued protection requires renewal review.
